Abstract:

Conventional seismic processing treats surface multiples as noise and numerous efforts have been spent on their removal. The extra interactions of multiples with subsurface significantly improve the illumination when they are included in migration. Images of primaries and multiples are complementary if they are combined properly. However, the joint migration of primaries and surface related multiples is extremely challenging because of the existence of crosstalks. Balancing their contributions to the image is also crucial for the successful application of thejoint migration. Joint least squares migration of primaries and multiples is an inversion scheme aiming at attenuating the crosstalk noises, removing acquisition footprint and produces a high resolution image.  In this presentation, I will discuss the origination of crosstalks and provide a solution to address the problem using inversion.
